Moab- tips, suggestions?

We are headed for Moab and general area in June. What I've gathered, mostly BLM land, first come first served. Anyone familiar with places to stay (26 ft.) tips for securing a spot, what to see, what to skip, etc. We are in no hurry, like to hike, explore, don't mind being off the grid. Thanks for any input.TT

  • We stayed here last week http://moabrvresorts.com/canyonlands/ Nice location not far form Arches, Canyonland, Dead Horse Point, and walk to restaurants and shops. We took a ride at sunset in a Hummer in the slick rocks that was cool.

You do need reservations, and there's no power or hookups. There is a restroom with flush toilets and a spigot for filling water bottles. It is a beautiful campground...see signature picture below. Yes, it is hot but it cools off nicely at night.
  • LOVE Moab. Take a day and go up Hwy 28.....there is a Red Cliffs Resort. The winery is really nice, didn't eat at the restaurant, but DID tour the MOVIE MUSEUM in the resort. It's free -- and fascinating (for people that like movies from 1926 (1928?) on --- MANY movies were filmed in that area.

Check out the rock store at one end of town....even if you're not a rockhound, you'll see dinosaur bones (fossilized) and a 40 foot petrified tree.

ALL restaurants seem to be good in Moab. But Check out Milt's Stop and Eat on South 400 E.........BEST hamburger I've EVER eaten. And Eddy McStiffs on main street.....:) I remember it was good food, but can't remember what we ate!!!!

    Have fun!
  • Dead Horse Point State Park takes reservations. The sites have power but no water or dump station out there. You can fill up and also dump in town.

  • be sure to go to mesa arch in the canyonlands. impressive view thru arch. I took a bunch of pictures, some 3-D of it and years later saw a Nikon ad with a shot almost exactly as one I took.

  • FYI, it will be hot. Personally I would want A/C as an option. Be it a generator or a campground with power.
There is a very nice BLM campground to the right, on the road out to Canyon Lands NP
