We just bought our Viking 17BH and took it out for the second time. We did some cooking and boiling of water. Just as we were inspecting the trailer before leaving the campsite, my wife noticed that there were some moist and soft spots on the ceiling. Some white plaster came off on our fingers. At first she thought maybe the trailer was leaking. But we found these soft spots all around the ceiling. It's a rough plaster type ceiling. Does cooking and boiling water affect the ceiling? Anybody have this problem? Thanks.

if the weather was cold, I would think that condensation would be possible if the insulation was not great. I have never seen a RV with a plastered ceiling however. notify the dealer ASAP.bumpy

You need beaucoup ventilation when pouring water vapor into your rig.

I always have one of my Fantasic fans on and a window at least cracked when cooking, doing dishes, showering even in cold weather. Moisture is not your TT's friend.

I would suggest keeping a big bucket of DampRid in your trailer while in storage.

Plaster should not go soft just from cooking inside the trailer, contact the dealer about it ASAP.

ALWAYS vent any trailer, even when it's freezing outside - just humans breathing inside a closed trailer can create excessive moisture in the air in a matter of hours. Aside from cracking a window surely your trailer must have a vent in the bathroom which you can leave open and of course when showering always run the fan to vent out the additional moist air created by the shower. Using the trailer without venting, no wonder you've had moisture issues.

Could it be a textured paint on the ceiling panels that's coming off because of the condensation?

Hello,
Yes, we had all the windows closed, so I guess that was not good. We also ran the air condition, which is on the ceiling. Don't know what that does. The ceiling has like a stucco finish. As I said, I don't know what it's made out of. I don't have a pic right now. I'm thinking of coating the ceiling with crystal clear or some kind of enamel to strengthen it and waterproof it.

An RV is like your bathroom in a way. Take a shower without the vent fan on and moisture collects on the windows and walls. An RV is sealed up pretty well (or should be) so it's imperative to run the vent fan (Fantastic Fan) when cooking or boiling water. The steam needs to be sucked out. Window open, fan on, always.

A picture would be nice because it sounds like there are other issues going on.

If this is indeed a brand new trailer then of course you should return it to the dealer to have this issue addressed under warranty. To do otherwise is foolish, regardless of the distance. :R

RV ceilings (like walls) are usually textured paper over Luan. No RV maker I know of uses plaster anywhere. You have an issue.

It don't know what the material on the ceiling is, but it looks like that wrinkled plaster used on some ceilings in houses. Thanks for your advice so far. I have contacted the dealer. He's over 225 miles away, so I hope I don't have to bring the trailer in.
