Monitor Display Panel Install Question.

Hello everyone, so I'm wondering what it would take to install a Monitor Panel/System in my 1971 21ft Terry Travel Trailer for batteries/ fresh/ grey and and black tanks? Has anyone on here did this? There is no type of monitoring system on it right now. On the front of the trailer is the fresh water tank and dual 12 volt batteries. On the back end of the trailer is the black and grey tanks practically side by side. If anyone has any suggestions I would love to hear them.

Thank you

  • I installed the sealevel monitor and love it. My trailer did not come with any monitor and it took about 2 hours to install it. 1 common wire to all 3 tanks and ground that is really it. Works perfect in my case by 7 percent increments. The batter monitor works by voltage at the panel so nothing extra to wire up for it. This is our first trailer so with no monitor we filled the gray tank in 1 day so we really needed it so we can see how we are using water.
  • Almost all new trailers come with the KIB monitor panel which can monitor battery, fresh, gray and black water tanks. They look like this:

Typically the tank sensors are bolts in rubber bushings in the tank at various levels. As has been said, they work pretty well in the fresh but not so much in the waste tanks. A solution to that are the upgraded probes:

    Horst Miracle Probes

I put them in and don't have any problems with the tank readings. They aren't completely foolproof though. The KIB stuff can be gotten at you local RV dealer or on line through dealers, Amazon or EBay. Horst sells probes direct.

The best (and very pricey solution are the SeeLevel Gauges which are external sensors and can't get fowled up.

    See Level Gauge
  • Mine doesn't work either and I don't plan on fixing it.

For what it's worth, I wouldn't spend the time, money or effort to install grey water or black water sensors. I have them, they haven't worked for years. I've putzed with them to try and get them back online to no avail.

Perhaps if you were thinking of an upgraded better designed system, then maybe yes. But no way would I install a factory system.

Fresh water gauge is OK, but we're usually on a water system, and I know how much we have in the tank.

Battery gauge. I bought a ten dollar miltimeter and connected it to the 12 volt system. I reads out to the hundredth on the decimal scale, much more accurate than four indicator lights.

    Just my input.

    True that
