My thought on that 7500 lb GTWR trailer is that the real tongue weight when ready to camp will be 750-1000 lbs. If you are at the upper payload limits of a F150, you should consider the F250 since physical dimensions are about the same. You will get a heavier frame, brakes and power train in roughly the same size package. I think if you price out the gasoline version of the F250, it will come in close to the F150. I know you are trying to avoid the 3/4t trucks, but remember that the kids will only continue growing and your camping will only get heavier as you do more...
I thought the same when shopping last spring. Dealers are not taking any $ off the Super Duty like they are the 150s. I had 2 trucks 150 and 250 Gassers side by side at multiple dealerships all within $1000 sticker of one another the 250 would of cost me an extra 8k on avg. because there are no incentives on the superduty like there is the 150. I didn't need the 250 at the time so I went 150 and saved 8k. He does not need a 250 or above for a 26.5 ft trailer he needs a properly equipped half ton like the 150 with the HDPP to give his kids room to grow and save that 8k and get ALOT better gas mileage daily.
