I guess it's all expectations. My 2016 F-150 XLT 4x4 was under $40,000 - not cheap by any means, but it's very nicely equipped and is a great tow vehicle for our TT. It takes care of everything else we need to haul, and it's comfortable and fun to drive on a daily basis. It has more passenger seating room than any vehicle I've owned since I sold my '63 Chevy Impala 4dr HT in 1970.
You can add more stuff like leather seats, sun roof, dual climate control, navigation, etc., but I didn't even want most of that. I really only miss the climate control, but it isn't exactly hard to turn a knob or push a button if it's too hot or too cold. I really can't think of anything more that I'd want to bring the price up to $70,000.
