No super big issues to date and it has never left me hanging some where in the middle of Montana with the trailer. And yes I have been there more than once. Just finished a 6100 mile trip two weeks ago with this truck and a 2018 5th wheel at a combined weight of 19,500#. Guess I am luck and you weren't.
If looking for a used 1-2 year old diesel I would give a serious look at brand new trucks. Full warranty and no worries of abuse or hidden gremlins.
As for the guys recommending a 5.9ctd those trucks are far from being 1-2 years old and the 05 we have the entire dash boards is gone and the AC ducts don't work properly. Not hardly the scenario the OP is looking for.
It has nothing to do with luck and more about my part of the country Dodge trucks with cracked or missing dashboard tops is very common. We purchased the truck because we stay away from EGR/DPF equipped diesel trucks. The looks of the truck is not a high priority for us since they are used for farm and ranch use.
