Thanks for the info jefe.
Can the jacks be removed relatively easy from most truck campers? There are times I would want them on the camper and times I know I wouldn't. Can I take them on and off with the twist of a wrench?
Yeah, and some people run around with their jacks off (...some even leave them at home which I _don't_ recommend).
We never take our Caribou off the truck when we are traveling because it is too convenient to have it with us during the day (so technically, we almost never use the jacks in the field). But if you have a mishap where you have to re-center or reload your camper, you will be glad that you have jacks with you!
Rather than remove our jacks, we had OUTFITTER "upfit" them as high as possible. For the average RVer, this could be a pain in the neck if you were to get into a situation where you are unloading on say, an uneven surface, but this is easily accomplished by placing solid blocking between the jacks and the ground. Better to "upfit" and not 'smack a jack'.
The jacks themselves are rather bulky so besides the time it takes to remove them and put them on in the field, there is the question of where you are going to store all that hardware enroute. "Upfitting" works and your manufacturer can advise you on that. You are a lot more likely to catch the back wall of an 8' camper sitting on a 6.5' bed while on a steep climb-out and pull the back wall off, than to hit an up-fitted jack. (...RV.net members have actually done that !)
