Thanks. Decision made. I'll order a Four Wheel Camper later this month or September. Current manufacturing time is 12 weeks (more or less).
I've visited the factory twice and had just about every question answered I can think of. I'll purchase the Hawk (6.5') which will sit completely in my short bed truck (6.75') so I'll have no overhang. I'm getting it sans shower/toilet and the other options are kept to a relative minimum. Small fridge, side dinette, rear spot lights, side awning and a handful of other things.
I have pretty low gearing (4.30) in the axles, so my next thought is lockers front and rear or a True Trac in the front and locker in the rear. I have 34" tires ordered to replace my 33" tires (all metric E-rated for capacity). Not a mountain goat like the Jeep I built, but should be able to get me off the beaten path and into some of the lakes I like to fish, maybe year-round.
congrates, let me add my 2 cents.
Been there done that.
I got a 7ft Bronco popup for the very reason,no overhang
I only do light 4 wheeling with it and has worked out fine
3 years later upgraded to 8 FT .
it overhangs only 11 inches but the added room is amazing.
the best thing is the electric top and the dinette bed is big enough to sleep in and I can use the camper top down if I want
I go everywhere I want.
