Campfires are nice but extremely overated. We have not had a campfire in over 2 years! With our fantastic fan on at night we often smell the campfire smells filling the camper. I can't imagine being actually allergic to the stuff! So sorry you have to deal with this. In a recent trip we thought a raging wildfire was happening only to find some careless campers throwing their trash on their campfire. The only advice would be to either boondock or find a campsite with the wind direction in mind to make sure you are not in the direction of anothers campsite. If you so need to have a campfire try using a candle and put your chairs around and hang out, the stars are much clearer and you don't need to haul a bunch of wood around.
