Motor cycle on front receiver

Thinking about going back to two wheels. I usually tow my 91 Yj wrangler with my 01 dodge 2500 4x4 cummins with a six-pac camper. Truck handles the job well but I'm getting tired of dragging it along. Extra load on truck , more fuel , can't back up , ect ect. What I would like to do is carry a Rokon trail breaker on the front. Light bike , 200 pounds plus weight of carrier. According to my dodge manual this truck is rated for a 633 pound snow plow so I don't see how weight could be an issue. Anybody here carry a bike on the front of you're truck with a tc on it? Thanks Joe.

  • There are motorcycles and motorcycles.
I did carry Honda Trail 50 on front of my motorhomes and having hanging bracket pretty high, I just lifted it there.
Don't think I would even try that with Harley.
My friend drives 800 lb behemoth and just to load it on trailer he needs 2 ramps.
I think with pickup visibility is main issue and too bad nobody makes small motorcycles with foldable handlebars anymore.
Those 40+ years old Hondas Trails keep good value as there is no replacement for them.

It is odd. All I see is a large blank area with a small grey circle with a horizontal line thru it.

I use this site to format pics posted here. You can't drag and drop directly from google photos. You must download a copy first and then drag and drop to the site. Then paste the link it provides in the message.

  • I have a 2001 Ramm 3500 diesel that I carry a drz400 on a CycleGear hitch rack on the front. Bike and rack weigh around 400lbs. If I go over a bump hard I get a little slap but it is rare.

Visibility is reduced but still safe to drive. Night driving is harder because the bike blocks a lot of the light. I removed the relay that only turns the fog lights on when low-beam is selected and jumped the terminals with a wire so fog lights work when high beams are on too. This helps but is still not perfect. My plan is to add LED spotlights to the front of the bike carrier and wire in a plug that connects to the fog light circuit.

In hindsight, I would have purchased a carrier that can easily hold a gas can too. I need to weld a platform to hold a gas can on the carrier securely enough for me to trust it on the road.

I really like this setup and recommend it to anyone with a camper and a single bike.

    Skipro3- I can't see your pic

  • Thanks for the input !!! Skipro your pic shows up fine. Nice truck man!!
  • I carried a Honda Trail 90 for many years on the front of my truck with no problems.
  • I carry a Yamaha TW200 on the front of mine. Plenty of sight clearance but some blocking of headlights. I have enough through, with the fogs on, to drive safely though. I rarely drive after dark anyways.
My carrier is a tilting model, makes loading very easy, one man job. My truck with camper rides much nicer with the motorcycle on the front. I suppose the extra weight is making a better balance? With camper, my front is only 200 pounds more than unloaded (w/o motorcycle) and 550 pounds with the motorcycle and carrier
(Let me know if the photo is viewable. Been using Google Photos and other forums state they can't see 'em)

  • There are quite a few who do although I don't. Other than visibility, etc, there shouldn't be an issue.
