Now you're just being nit-picky. I've heard a lot of people call the exhaust brakes on their diesel trucks "Jake brakes."
Heck it's not even technically correct for the big rigs. It is a JACOBS brake, after the company that pioneered it.
Per the wikipedia page: "Although Jake brake properly refers to the Jacobs brand of engine brakes, the term has become a genericized trademark and is often used to refer to engine brakes or compression release engine brakes in general, especially on large vehicles or heavy equipment."
Agree---ours and many towns have a sign at entrance to effect of...
Attention Truckers, use of JAKE BRAKE not allowed in town limits.
Its a generic term now like Kleenex.
The author of the Motor Trend article MAY not know the difference, he may think that's the proper term, but most everyone knew what he meant. - v10superdutyExplorerI guess Motor Trend has no anti-GM bias cause I see they awarded Chevy Bolt as Car OTY ;)
I feel some folks really take this forum and whats said here-- WAY TO SERIOUS.
There is lots of great info here but please consider that the post writers may be trying for humour, sarcasim, innuendo, whatever and take it in stride. :W - mkirschNomad IINow you're just being nit-picky. I've heard a lot of people call the exhaust brakes on their diesel trucks "Jake brakes."

This from the article,
and when it came time to slow after the quarter mile, the Jake brake gave me so much compression braking that I felt extremely confident transitioning from off-throttle to gentle braking for the turnaround." - BenKExplorerThis makes you stand out and above the herd...plus am betting you actually
read the fine print plastered all over brochures...and another betcha
also understand what that fine print does to those ratings...
Oh well, you are a rarity...now back to the normal stuff...Fordlover wrote:

As always, only all-new or significantly updated vehicles were eligible to participate.
Am I the only one who reads further than the title of a story or headline?
BTW, for last years test, the Tacoma, the GM midsize twins and full size twins, and the Nissan XD competed. So, Bias against GM must skip a year, since the Chevy Colorado won last year. - FordloverExplorer

They are not "dissing" anything nor does it have anything to do with sales numbers. I've been an MT subscriber since my teens, for the better part of the last 35 years. Motor Trend TOY and COY competitions only include new or significantly changed models. If the GMs have had only minor changes that's why they weren't included. The next year's competition might not include the Ford.
But why are the Rams included in this test? Is there anything new about them? - Perrysburg_DodgExplorerYep rags are great for killing time between jobs on the floor but not much than that.
- Tiger02ExplorerLike V10superduty said. Any vehicle I'm interested in I will spend a lot of time on their forums researching. Motor Trend, Consumer Reports and many of the other "consumer" type rags are pretty unreliable.
- v10superdutyExplorerPersonally I think Motor Trend Car.Truck Of The Year is a bought and paid for award.
Seems whatever is kinda new that year gets it. If there is a few competitors, then the one with most ads in their magazine gets it.
Consumer Reports is as unbelievable as well as they don't seem to even understand vehicles. The guy who tests washing machines does the car stuff on his coffee breaks I think.
For real honest opinions on trucks, just come here to the Tow Vehicles forum.
Only real unbiased facts here, no fluff or crazy statements just cause we own a particular brand. :B :B :B :B :B
