Here is the link Motor Trend
and here is the statement where they diss GM ?
"We had the luxury in this test of having the Super Duty's most direct competitor on hand, and it proved instructive. The Super Duties accelerated more quickly and smoothly than their Ram Heavy Duty rivals, "
So they don't consider GM a direct competitor?
Except I didn't see anything about the big seller. History! I wouldn't take a Ford diesel if you paid me, and that's all I own right (now 3 Fords). You never read of someone complaining about a Ram diesel (let alone anything about a Ram)! I don`t care if the Ford is a little bit faster, in the Ram I know I`ll make it there! - FordloverExplorer

Who knew the new Super Duty has a "jake brake"?
This from the article,
and when it came time to slow after the quarter mile, the Jake brake gave me so much compression braking that I felt extremely confident transitioning from off-throttle to gentle braking for the turnaround."
I agree with you on substance, but if the writer had written about the kleenex holder, you making a comment about how it's actually a tissue holder would likely get you laughed out of the campfire circle, and we might take your beer and man card as well. - hbillsmithExplorerI bought my GMC 2500HD because it was the only 3/4 ton diesel that would fit in my garage. Trns out it is a great truck too!
- MVH1ExplorerWhat I found amazing was how close the gas engine did compared to the turbo diesel on all the tests except the Davis Dam. Every other test it was either less than a second or the most 3 seconds. The Davis Dam was a little over 10 seconds, but who tows up that everyday. Fuel mileage definitely better on the turbo diesel.
- ksssExplorerThe new GM HD wasn't likely ready for the article. They still have not delivered a 2017 yet that I am aware of. It will be in play for next years contest. The new FORD SD with its first serious redo since 1999, certainly qualifies and looks like a very nice pickup.
- Bird_FreakExplorer III stopped reading Motor Trend years ago. Too biased for me.

That "Jake brake" must be changed from 2016. On the '16 that I occasionally drive for work when you push the exhaust brake button you can't really feel or hear any difference from it being off, even in tow/haul mode.- v10superdutyExplorer

They are not "dissing" anything nor does it have anything to do with sales numbers. I've been an MT subscriber since my teens, for the better part of the last 35 years. Motor Trend TOY and COY competitions only include new or significantly changed models. If the GMs have had only minor changes that's why they weren't included. The next year's competition might not include the Ford.
You are not getting the gist of my quote out of the article.
What I "meant" by it was that this statement in the part I quoted,
"We had the luxury in this test of having the Super Duty's most direct competitor on hand"
has nothing to do with the trucks being contenders for the TOTY award, but that Motor Trend ONLY considers the Ram a contender for "test" purposes?
Not sure if you follow yet but if they would have said we could only get one of the 2 most direct contenders for our test, then they wouldn't be dissing GM.. :S
Doesn't really matter, I was just pointing out to the GM guys that Motor Trend didn't seem to thing their truck worthy of comparing as a direct competitor.
Wow, the more I try and explain what I meant, the more I'm confusing myself.
Anyway, the award went to Ford which was an all new truck this year weather they deserve it or not. - spoon059Explorer II

Now you're just being nit-picky. I've heard a lot of people call the exhaust brakes on their diesel trucks "Jake brakes."
Regardless, Motor Trend is supposed to be giving factual information and readers might assume that they know what they are talking about. Its one thing that Billy Bob mistakenly calls it a Jake Brake cause he is too stupid to know the difference... Motor Trend, trying to establish some credibility for themselves, should know the difference and use the correct terminology. - spoon059Explorer II

I'm not certain that the Ram had ANY changes between 2016 and 2017...
