Anyone downgrade to a gasser after running diesel for years regret it? Keeping my Dodge, but may look at a smaller trailer (less than 6,000), only pulling a few months a year, and commuting about 20,000 each year; not to save cash, as vehicle cost far outweighs whatever fuel I may burn in the Ram, but for comfort and ease of driving. I like my Dodge but, honestly, it's a bear to live with everyday and tow (noisy, rougher ride, hard to park, $150+ fillups), and a half ton would be much more to my liking (addresses all the negatives, plus less/cheaper maintenance, cheaper wear items such as tires, etc). The only downside is longevity; the Cummins will outlast the truck, and very few gassers last over 500,000 before calling it quits; not sure I'll ever get close to that, but you never know.
With rare exceptions, most of us would not be happy with a 500,000mi light-duty truck, no matter what engine is under the hood.
HVAC systems, pumps, power accessories, bushings, the interior trim, etc. etc. will have given up the ghost by then, maybe twice or three times over.
I see a 2014 Ram 1500 with the 3.0L diesel and air suspension in your future.
Well it is all about maintenance, I am over half way to a 500,000 mile truck, all the bells and whistles still work fine.
Not many new trucks have a Sound system that does, Radio (AM & FM), tape, and 10 CD changer! I still have several tapes, and my player still plays them great!
There are older trucks that have been maintained.
