"Strange noises from the internet!" I do not even know mine is a diesel noise wise until towing heavy and hard on a mountain pass. Towing at 24K combined I lock out 6th gear and tow at a quiet 1750 RPM in 5th at around 60 MPH.
Both GM and RAM have had cases of drive line launch shutter with heavy loads. I have not had that with my short bed. Not sure if FORD's have had that issue.
My friends early Ext Cab Duramax had the issue and I found the TSB for him to get it converted to a single piece aluminum drive line, which cured it. Two piece drive lines are at the core of a lot of issues, which change with load and u-joint angle.
