Nothing wrong with the 68RFE, I think they're good tranny's...your truck should be lighter than mine, so I would "think" that you would get better mpg...
Keep us posted on your mpg, especially when you start towing. Does your truck have the 5er/GN prep package? If it doesn't, you'll actually be ahead of the game..if it does, there are a couple of way's to make it work...
Enjoy the new truck...:) - ib516Explorer II

It would be interesting to see the MPG differences between the 3.42, 3.73 and 4.10 - 45RicochetExplorerIt would be interesting to see the MPG differences between the 3.42, 3.73 and 4.10

Hi Jim is it safe to say not towing I can look for 17-18 MPG
I would say it depends on how you drive....17-18 might be pushing it. I drive to and from work, 17 miles or so one way...maybe 11 being interstate (60 mph)...I can ave. 16.4 or so....When I drove to WV, I got, if I remember correctly, and I posted it in here somewhere, 16.5 mpg or so...I ran a few miles per hr over the speed limit..if 60, ran 63 or so, if 70 ran 73...255 miles, of which, probably 55-60 miles of that was secondary roads...all in the mountain driving, ie, NC, TN, Va and WV.....
If we can get 17-18 mpg out of these big dually's, I'd be pickled tink, I mean, tickled pink:).
Which tranny do you have? I have the Aisin, which I believe weighs well over 200# more than the 68RFE...so this truck weighs more than the 10 and 12 and is getting better mpg in town and on the highway than the either one of those. - Big_RayExplorerHi Jim is it safe to say not towing I can look for 17-18 MPG
- NC_HaulerExplorerI have the dually in my sig., and as Rick mentioned, I don't have a hitch yet due to Chryslers excellence in Engineering a great idea into a truck bed, but dropping the ball when it comes to utilizing it. I'm still looking for a way to use the 5er/GN prep and not tear up my truck bed....Believe with the Reese elite drop in ball and an Anderson Ultimate 5er hitch, I'll be able to do some towing...just fortunate I don't have to do any towing "right now".
ok...off topic there for a bit....Driving back and forth to work, some city driving in there and some trips on the truck, at around 1150 miles, I've been "averaging" a tad over 16 mpg....I haven't towed yet, but with my 5er loaded to 15,750# with the 2010 and the 2012 which were both dually's and both with 4:10's, I'd get 9 to as high as 11 mpg..depending on if I were towing "mostly uphill", or "mostly down hill"..(all my towing done in the mountains)...I would like to think that my towing mpg, like my unloaded mpg, will be higher with this 13'...It's an awesome truck and very comfortable and quite for a 1 ton crew/cab/long bed 4 wheel drive dually.
AS SOON AS I TOW, I will post my results..am looking forward to towing with this truck, as the 2010 and 2012 were both more than capable of doing the job...figure it'll d the job very well..with improved mpg with DEF addition.. - Big_RayExplorerDually
