MPG with different diesel fuel brands

I notice a drop in mpg when I cross into Calif and fill up with any fuel "branded" or not.
With all the additives different brands put in, if I was fleet manager cpm (cents per mile) would also be in play.
(Side note) last 3 or 4 years I started keeping track of mpg. I had leaky injector that I could of seen much earlier had I been keeping better track.
