The 8.1L came with the Alison 5-spd and later 6-spd trans in the pickups, 4-spd in SUVs. The gear ratios are fairly similar between the Alison 5-spd and Ford 5R110. Power from the V10 and 8.1L are also comparable. The V10 does use less fuel under just about every conditino though.
