My 04' 2500HD with 6.0 vs 2009 Ford F250 V10. Update!

I decided we need a crew cab, I went a couple years with an extended cab and my kids need the crew cab for their growing bodies.

I have an 04' Chevy 2500HD LT with 4.10 rear and 6.0 motor with 94k miles, tires are getting thin and I am about to hit the 100k tuneup period.

The new contender is a 2009 F250 XLT 4x4 crew with 60k miles new tires, with a V-10 and unknown rear.

When I towed with my Chevy I was at 14900# for total TT and Truck weight and my GCWR max is 16000# so we only have 1100# for passengers.
I assume I maybe close on GCWR?

The TT I have is a Heartland Trail Runner 30usbh that weighs 8580# without full water.

Does this look like a good matchup? I assume I will have to get the GVWR off the door tag in the truck to get a better idea. I assume I maybe close on GVWR once I add a 1500# tongue weight and family.....man I hope I have some wiggle room.
  • If your happy with your 6.0 then 75 or so more lb/ft and an extra gear should widen your grin

According to THIS, the GCWR is 21,000#, tow rating 12,500#, and the only rear axle available was 4.10. The 4.30s were only available in an F350 SRW.
  • Yep... thats the top dog Ford IMHO for that year. That V10 and the five speed auto are awesome tow vehicles.

    Thirsty.. but awesome.

FWIW... My v10 got about 10.5 MPG EMPTY mixed highway and city. But you can't kill them!

    Thanks!
