Thanks for the write-up and your personal viewpoint of the Hemi 6.4, which can be valuable information for those that will never go the diesel route. Another forum member Ib516 has an over 12K# 5er and enjoys what his Hemi 6.4 can do, and that is coming from someone who has had Cummins diesels in the past, glad you are enjoying your towing experience.
We all know and you clearly stated that today's available gassers do not have the grunt power that a diesel would have, but not everyone wants or needs all this torque. They simply want to get their towable from point A to point B in a timely fashion, since most state they only drive 60mph, even a gasser can maintain those speeds more than 90% of the time.
We are in the same boat as you and only use our 3/4 ton Chevy crewcab gasser for hauling our 10K# 32' TT toyhauler, otherwise it just sits in the garage awaiting duty. We live (nearly 6K' elevation) and RV predominately in the Mountain West where we traverse elevations exceeding 10K' with our towing combination, most often camping at 8K' give or take a few hundred feet.
With 8 camping seasons and 70K miles on our TV, we have had no issues RVing anywhere in the four corner states, sure there were times that we would have liked a bit more torque, but we always arrived to our destination safe and sound. No problem staying ahead of all the commercial diesel trucks and maintaining highways speeds on the interstates even @ higher elevations. Other than fluid changes, we have replaced the battery and tires once so upkeep has been minimal.
Now that the kids are grown and no longer make as many trips with us as in the past, we are looking for floorplans better suited for couples and extended stays. The next rig may be in the 12K#-14K# range and I'm encouraged to see gassers capable of handling these rigs, hopefully the Hemi 6.4 gets Ford and Chevy to get their HD gasser trucks to handle more capacity in the near future as we are probably a couple of years away from upgrading to our next rig.
