Very subjective/personal...
I'm not a fan of any trailer brake controller that senses MC PSI
Much prefer inertia controllers
Been waiting for these complaints to show up with IBC's and the subsequent
issue with diagnosing them. Due to their 'highly integrated' nature...they
are tied into everything. ABS system. Traction control system.
Anti-sway control system. etc, etc, etc The complaints are coming
in on this portal and other portals I read. All have similar 'too
complex' after a few tries at it
MC (master cylinder) PSI sensed depends on the sensor in the braking
system's hydraulic system. I've designed many industrial braking systems
and they all used PSI and was the main failure component...that PSI
sensor. Am seeing them crop up on these IBC's and previous MC PSI sensed
after market units (they are all out of business, that I know of)
My designs used that brake hydraulic PSI sensor just as a switch to
tell the computer systems that the brakes are released. To brake, they
employ Belleville Disc Springs to set the friction material to the
disc. So fail safe. Release the PSI and the brakes set...lose PSI and
the brakes set...
Proportional to how hard you press on the brake pedal and don't know
of anyone of them that also senses the brake pedal light switch.
So, yes proportional to how hard you press the pedal and turns on
the IBC when MC PSI is developed...unless there is a brake pedal light
switch with a boost function
Now with my P3, it turns on with the brake pedal light switch. That is
preset to turn on the brake controller BEFORE the MC ever develops any
PSI
So with mine, can initiate the trailer brakes BEFORE ever developing
any MC PSI.
Along with the boost function...it will brake at whatever preset I've
dialed in.
Then as the trailer brakes start to decelerate the whole thing (both
TV and trailer). And continues to brake as along as it senses deceleration
I can just leave my foot there and NOT go further to develop MC PSI.
I've stopped the whole thing WITHOUT ever initiating my TV's brakes.
Albeit longer distance than if I went farther and got the TV's brakes
involved.
Note on where to mount the after market brake controllers...careful on
where knowing that there are two knee/shin recesses in the lower dash
They are to keep the driver from submarine and pinch their knees with
the lower edge of the dash. Jaws of Life were needed to get folks out
until the OEMs (guess mandated by the government) put in these lower dash
recesses
That is just about the only down side...they do NOT look as clean
as an OEM built into the dash
So, do NOT mount an after market in those recesses
Personal choice and for me, P3 is the best for now.
