I have a 2015 RAM 3500 that has the factory brake controller. Don't think its any better than the aftermarket I had before on a different truck. On the 2015 the controller talks with the truck's computer. The in-dash display in the gauge cluster tells me it's connected and displays something like "trailer 1". It keeps up with the miles I put on "trailer 1" There may be, and probably is a computer update they do when they install it which may account for some of the price.
At least with the factory one I don't hit my knees.
