My plan

Hey all - been a while since I've hung out here with you!

I'm planning on getting a new tow vehicle soon. The RV (Cougar 5th wheel) is gone - can't say I'll miss it, not much of a Cougar/Keystone fan. The truck is gone too as I have previously mentioned.

As for my "RV" - well, I don't plan on getting one anytime soon. Child support and Alimony payments make that impossible. I had a 2002 Malibu, but last time I saw it, it looked like this, and went to the crusher a long time ago. A guy turned left in front of me from the opposite direction and I clobbered him. He was uninsured (greeeaaat). Got that all sorted out, but I was pretty sore for a couple days. Thank god for seatbelts.

So now I drive this, and have turned in my man card temporarily.

So here is my gals vehicle, a 2006 Hummer H3 powered (and I use that term loosely) by the I5 3.5L. This is our current TV.

So I will be tent camping, and hauling the tandem kayak, 2 mountain bikes, and our two dogs, not to mention all the camping gear (tent, sleeping bags, etc.). Needless to say, that isn't all going to fit into the Hummer H3.

So, here's my plan.

I bought this for a couple hundred dollars, which we will pull with the Hummer (I think even that little I5 can handle that trailer).

I'm modifying it to carry the kayak on top, and the camping gear and bikes below. I bought a used metal cabinet to house the inverter and deep cycle battery, and I will mount a solar panel on top. I also sold my 3500w Chinese inverter generator for $600 and bought one of these from Wal*Mart for $300.

Money is very tight these days, so I used the extra $300 to buy metal and supplies to build the camping trailer. When done, it will look something like this one (THIS IS NOT MINE).

I will have to extend (the reinforce) the trailer tongue to accommodate the 13.5 foot long kayak, I have a buddy that is doing the welding for me on the cheap. I have many other mods planned for the trailer...a painters pole (extendable) mounted LED light, a couple USB outlets, battery power gauge, 12V socket, inverter and deep cycle battery (which I need to paint), and more. I'll post pics as I add onto it.

I am also looking for a Tacoma to replace the Kia, but that will have to wait until all the divorce stuff shakes out in court.
