Well Ive finally decided to get a truck camper for all my hunting and traveling I planned to do between Florida, Minnesota, and Washington State. So Here is what I have and what Im currently looking at. I have a 2000 F250 SRW Ext cab long bed. Im currently looking at a 2002 Elkhorn 11x. Now research has led me to understand this is a big camper for this pickup (weighs in at 3165 with all fluids full). Im curious if anyone has had any experience hauling this rig. My main concern is STABILITY because I will be making long 3000+ mile trips and I want to ride comfortably. I know a Dually would be better, but Im afraid that is not an option. My F250 has Air Bags on it, but thats it. It has the factory rear sway bar, but no overload spring. So I want to add one, and get some "Super Springs" to help with any sway. Its my belief that since I have a 2 wheel drive pickup I am a little lower to the ground so I probably wont rock and sway as bad as guys with the 4wd rigs beings they are several inches higher off the ground. The guy who is selling the Camper use to haul with a stock 4x4 SRW F350 (no suspension upgrades) and said he upgraded to a Dually because he didnt like the ride. So im wondering if I can get CLOSE to handling the same with my SRW. What do you guys think?
Had a 2000 Elkhorn 10v on a dually and still had to add more suspension stuff. It is a huge camper for a SRW truck. You are looking at 4000 pounds with your stuff and water in the camper. I think you have your answer in that the guy that is selling it is upgrading to a dually because he did not like the ride. That pretty much sums it up at least it would for me.
