My truck is broken....

....2009 Silverado 3500HD, DRW, CC, 4x4.

32609 miles, it's not a daily driver and sees mostly camper hauling or trailer towing duties.

The idler arm and pitman arm are toast.

/rant off.

  • I found the problem during an inspection at another shop.

I drove to the dealer, they had an opening in the shop tomorrow, so I decided to just leave it there tonight since it was more convenient than driving it back there tomorrow morning.

The dealer is fixing it under an extended warranty I bought. I'm glad at this point that the warranty I bought was one of the GM warranties and not some third party warranty... this is because I am no longer near the dealer where I bought the truck, I relocated. BUT, I still get back there with the truck on occasion and cash in on my free lifetime LOF!!

Portions of the steering system are non-lube parts, and that's why they fail. I guess it's not uncommon.
  • Wow, that's pretty low miles for front end parts to wear out. I have 103,000 on my 2005 and have no front end issues. Never even had an alignment yet. Are you running oversize tires or non stock bling wheels?

I just had them replaced on my 99 K3500, and I thought that was early. Could be worse, truck will be back on the road in no time. Don't forget the alignment!
  • :h That seems excessive at less than 33,000 miles unless you smoked something with a tire.
