myrv linc tablet in newer TTs, anyone with experience?

So after a bunch of consideration and looking at many TT's, we landed on the RV we really want. The 272bhs VIBE by forest river

We just found out that this model has the option of having the myRV linc tablet that supposedly operates the interior/exterior lights, stabilizer jacks (auto level), slide outs, hvac, awnings and even monitor the status of tire pressure, tanks, and battery.

needless to say id really like this feature but i just cant fathom this technology in a TT. I thought this type of stuff was reserved for big 5th wheels and class A's ?

anyone have experience with this stuff? I know it isnt forest river specific so thats why im reaching out here.
  • I have one, it's pretty cool at first and you can impress your neighbors. If it breaks everything still has the manual switches.
The WiFi signal is a bit week, so I've been meaning to buy a cheap router to setup as a repeater. I don't know if you will have this problem with yours.

Honestly, we've only used it a few times. I need the exercise to get off my butt and put the awning out. :)

  • I don't have any direct experience with the system, and I wouldn't worry about reliability, etc. As you said, everything has a manual switch that overrides the tablet if need be. The cool part is that if you have an Android phone, you should be able to add those apps right to your phone and use that to control stuff in addition to the tablet.

My issue with this type of system is what does it really do for you? Is this technology really helpful, or it is it just technology for the sake of technology? Is it easier to get the tablet and open an app to turn a light on or just go over to the switch and give it a flick?

As I said, I'm not concerned about complexity and reliability, but more so what actual benefits does it really provide? I would look at each function that you get with the system and imagine a circumstance where using the app would be easier than the old way. Boil down the system to the parts of it that you feel will be truly useful and then see if it's worth the cost. I don't think it would be for me, but that's me....I'm not trying to talk you out of this by any means. If you've already done this and have decided it's for you, then I wouldn't hesitate to get it.

There's also a new system called Ready Camp for the big DP Class A's that has a fob with a "camp" button it. One push of the button and the jacks go down, the slides go out, water heater turns on, awning goes out, etc. Of course what happens when you push "Camp" is all pre-programmed using the tablet. George Jetson has arrived!

We looked at this model also before deciding on the Kz Spree. The tablet is an ordinary android based tablet that contains apps to control stabilizers, awning, slide out, and awning lights. There are also manual switches for all of these functions should your tablet fail for some reason. The tablet also contains the manuals and owners guides for the TT. And you can use the tablet as you would use any Android tablet, connect to Wifi and away you go.

I'm not sure what type of communication it uses maybe Z-Wave.

That would lead me to wanting to know the quality of the tablet. My wife's Asus tablet is so much better than a cheapie that I have, which needs to be reset periodically to keep it working smoothly. With the Lippert tablet, if you have to reset it, does the table retain all the Lippert programming and settings?
  • Info at Youtube

It would appear that on a TT, it would be used for lighting, slideouts and tank monitors. Having system information available on the main tablet might be helpful. But the big question I would have is whether the switches and components can be over ridden i.e. if the tablet fails, will a wall switch still turn on a light or will the switch for the slide out still work.

Considering it is an option, personally I would not want it until it has been out on the market for a couple of years and proven to be a good system. Everyone knows how many troubles there were when the Lippert slide out mechanism was first introduced. It seems a lot of the problems were caused by poor installation, troubles with Lippert components on larger slideouts seem to have continued.

All you could do is make sure you see and operate a trailer with the system, and also see what happens if the system fails. Then, I'd be asking for the cost of replacement parts...the main pad, remote switches, etc.

  • cant say i disagree with more stuff to break, my wife and I discussed that when the panel with physical switches and indicators is obviously reliable.

honestly, anything will be an upgrade over our 97.

With all that said, if you dont have experience with the system, as I had asked, why knock it?
  • thanks for your experience and insight with the system. extremely helpful information for myself and others.
  • Terrific ... yet more junk we don't need in the RV world that can and will eventually fail. RV manufacturers are building to minimal standards as it is, now they want to add even more complication and potential for failure?! :) Thanks, but no thanks.

WONDERFULL .... NOT, not only can a lot of the younger generation not know what or even how to balance a checkbook, make change for a $1, but now won't have to do any mental work to operate an RV ... EXCEPT when the myRV linc batteries go dead:E However, they still know how to whip out that Credit or Debit card to pay for that $1 loaf of bread at the store.;)
