Mysterious Running Motor Sound in Jayfeather?

Hello, I have a question that will probably sound crazy to anybody else, but there is this strange sound like a loud motor running under our dinette seats. It keeps kicking on and off periodically and makes the whole dinette rumble.

We've been plugged in in Phoenix, AZ for the past week, is it our a/c having issues?

You'll have to forgive me for sounding like an idiot, my husband is sleeping and I don't want to wake him up to bother him with a dumb question. But I thought I should ask someone in case it's serious. We're new to the world of travel trailers, this is our 3rd week of living in one.

It's a 2007 Jayco Jayfeather Ultra Lite 30 ft. The dinette is u-shaped and backs up to a slide-out bed. It only started doing this today.

Thank you!

  • Turn a faucet on, then listen. Then turn it off and listen.

If the noise is coincidental with running water it's your water pump. It is normal for it to run in short bursts occasionally as the pressure drops with temperature changes even if there is no water leaking anywhere.

If it's running in short bursts at even, periodic rates, you need to look carefully for water leaks.
  • Probably the water pump. Are all your faucets shut off? No drips?
  • No I don't know. I'm sorry. :/

Do you think this could be something serious? I have 4 kids in here so I guess I'm paranoid.
  • Do you know where your water pump is located? It possibly is the culprit.
