Why don't you hook up and go up of Stevens pass, that will give you an indication if you need one or not.
(For what is worth) my son's brother in law was towing a smallish U-Haul type trailer and his would hardly tow it, but he did have some big tires on it. Which throws off towing power and trans ratio's big time. Also bring along a temp gun to see if temps on radiator are evenly disturbed (indication of how radiator is cooling or getting plugged up). That would be a good test IMO and close to home if any troubles came up.
If you need a cooler and have room the coolers out of 6.0's are very good because of plumbing sizes or pipe sizes, I've been told.
