That’s because you think the arbitrary numbers they give are actual real world physical limits. They aren’t, not even close. If you look at how a floating axle with two large bearings on each side is built and compare to a half-ton car style axle you’ll see why half tons aren’t as stout under a load no matter what numbers they slap on the brochure.
American 2500 and 3500 trucks are very under-rated.
It’s like heavyweight fighters who diet to qualify for a lighter class where they have an advantage. .
