Need Accessories Advice

Hi All,

I'm new here. My husband and I bought our 2010 F-350 dually last year with the intention of being prepared for a truck camper when the right one came along. We think we may have found it!! :) But we need advice on outfitting our truck with the right accessories. Think airbags, springs, sway control, tie downs, turnbuckles, extension hitch...help!
The camper we are looking at is a 2013 Lance 1191. We will be within but pushing our GVWR. We intend to sometimes tow a boat with a 500 lb tongue weight.

Suggestions please!
Thanks!
Rob and Carrie

    What's a truck camper sight?

Don't go crazy with add-ons until you KNOW you need them. Tiedowns yes, but you won't need any suspension mods to get that camper home, or even for your first couple of trips. Heck you may find that you don't need anything. Get a feel for it and address any shortcomings/concerns/issues you encounter.

I totally agree with this advice. Get the basics attended to first starting with knowing what your truck already has from the factory i.e. tow and/or camper package, spring ratings etc. and ensure your truck is in very good mechanical condition.

You'll need at least "E" load rated tires, a good tie down system (I use TorkLift with Fast Guns) and a hitch receiver and brake controller set up for your boat. You can go custom or prefabricated here.

Like mkirsch states, other accessories/mods can be added/made as needed to address actual issues you are experiencing once you're rolling.

Its good that you are considering the impact of 500 lbs on the end of a 48" extension; it will make a difference. At a minimum, I would get a WD type hitch. We had one on our 2006 F350 DRW and it made a big difference.

The vast majority of weight distributing hitched aren’t compatible with surge brake boat trailers. The Reese Steadi-Flex can do it.

I think this qualifies as a truck camper site. :) At least, I think those things on the back of our trucks in many of our signatures are truck campers. ;)

That was my thought. ?? Didn't know if I was missing something.

    ???

Only thing you 'need' before hand are tiedowns and ability to plug in camper. That size camper Id also go with Torklift tiedown system.
Allowance for plugging camper into truck, being a Lance Id go dedicated Lance plug in the bed to utilize its larger wiring capabilities.

  • Torklift tiedowns, fastguns, and Super Hitch with extension. Most people would say wait for the suspension modifications until you try it. Personally, I'd buy airbags so you can easily level and have adjustments of the rig with/without trailer.
