Thanks for all the advice.
We ended up getting Michelin LTX M/S-2 tires at Walmart. Costco wanted a 50% deposit which would have meant driving about 20 miles to their location and then going back again for the install. Walmart was $4 less a tire. $1199 total including taxes, valve stems (TPMS type), balancing and replacing our spare with one of our old tires. They didn't even charge an eco fee for disposal of the old tires or balancing the spare.
We ordered them over the phone and less than 3 hours later, the tires were in at Walmart. They got our truck in right away too, unlike Les Schwab which was about 45 min. just to get into a bay.
We checked tirerack.com for curiousity and found their price was higher than Walmart by about $30 a tire. We know from from previous experience that tires in Canada can be as much as double the cost compared to in the US so while $1200 sounds like a lot, it would have been a LOT more back home.
The improvement in the ride is amazing. Smoother, quieter and much better handling. The old tires were an off-road pattern that came with the truck when we bought it. Can't wait to get on the road with the TT to see how much better towing is.
We pretty much new Les Schwaub was sizing us up, especially knowing we were foreigners travelling with an RV. DW is an accountant and very shrewd when it comes to spending money. We usually do our due diligence on the internet before parting with $$.
