I hauled a Lance squire lite 150 on a 2001 Chevy 1500 non HD and had zero problems. I even towed a trailer on a hitch extension with the lance loaded.
Look for a Lance 185, 150 or the newer 650 and you should be good to go. I currently have a 2004 Chevy 2500 non HD which essentially is the same as your 1500HD and I wouldn't hesitate to use it for another TC.
