Need ideas to move chair

I think I'm confused, (I often am), but can't you just secure the "jacknife sofa" so that it doesn't open up? Maybe a strap around it?

Not sure what the sofa has to do with the recliner?

These furniture sliders are available for hard cover or carpeted floors.

This probably won't work in your situation because of the shape of the base of your recliner but....we had a swivel rocker that had 3 metal legs as a base..we got a round plastic "dish" that fits under a water heater and sat the rocker in it so we could slide it without the legs digging into the carpet..worked great. They cost about $10 each. Maybe you could do a variation of this. Another thing we used on a recliner that was too heavy to move was a drywall carrier handle..it hooked under the chair and made it easier to handle..I could lift it up and pull it into place rather that have to try to push it on the carpet. We just used a cheapie plastic one, cost around $8.

I think he's saying he has to move the chair when he wants to open the sofa.

Is there some way to use a pipe or stick to pry under the side and help it move?

Im thinking to secure the chair base to a thin plywood base plate with a smooth pad that touches the floor to make it slide easier. Strap it down to eye bolts for travel.

Those are the sliders I have tried, but they won't stay under the chair feet.

Correct. I probably wasn't clear on the part about the sofa.
I maybe could get something under the ring, but I'm not sure what.

I read through this thread, and there are some good suggestions. I think I'll try the one you mentioned with the water heater pan. It sounds like the most popular option from that thread.

Thanks to all who replied.

It worked great for us. It was VERY easy to slide and since the chair was behind two opposing slides when we moved, it stayed where we put it, no need to secure it to the floor when we traveled.

Got the water heater drain pan from Home Depot. It fit like it was made for this. I didn't even have to cut down the height as some mentioned. It makes the chair slide much easier. Thanks again to all who gave suggestions.
