One option is to look at the gas engine. All three of the manufactures gas engines coupled with the six speed transmissions have plenty of horsepower for a truck camper and increase your payload substantially. In my case, 2013 Ford in Lariat trim, I gained almost 1,000 pounds of capacity over the diesel to a payload capacity of 6,200+ pounds. The truck carries the three of us, dogs and a fully loaded AF1150 (13,700) without exceeding its GVWR (14k).
