As others have noted it's not the "longer" TC necessarily but where the center of gravity is. Not too many campers longer than our AF1150 but COG is in the rear axle so it doesn't unload the front end.
One of the things to be aware of is GVWR is also related to brake capacity. For example, when Ford went from 13,300 GVWR to 14,000 they increased the size of the brakes. Just going by axle weights and ignoring GVWR means you may be having longer emergency stopping distances than what the manufacturer felt comfortable with. Similar comments can be made about the basic frame etc.
Many do it anyway, it's all what you are comfortable with.
