Bryan, the Dorman is a parts-store kit, they tell you on the package to soak the line in HOT water for about 10 mins then jam it on the fitting and let it cool. That's the approved method according to the package.
The mechanic's garage has the kit you reference....when did the repair it wasn't the connection that failed, the line itself failed. So started me wondering if the same thing that caused my Dorman line to get soft and lose connection was the same thing that caused the Napa line to "melt". It had to pretty bad if the engine wasn't even getting enough fuel to start.
Maybe ethanol, but you wouldn't think it would melt a fuel line other wise every car with nylon fuel lines would be affected. Seems like something is attacking the line but can't figure out what.
