I was living 15 miles from the City for 26 years and never liked driving there.
It is good to follow "49 miles scenic view" and avoid parking downtown.

The RV park I referred to in the link I provided is easy in and out unless you arrive or leave during high traffic times. I would avoid going across the Bay or Golden bridges though. Either come in from the north or from the N/E... Easy to circle around the Bay and stay out of the SF area.
From that RV park you can be in the city in 1/2 hr. No driving. And if you have bicycles, take them on the Ferry and then ride them back to the RV park.. Oh, some of the hills in SF are very steep....
