With my previous travel trailer I moved the spare tire off the rear bumper, ditched the bracket, but didn't "install" the tire elsewhere but merely moved it to the trailer's front pass through storage compartment which helped increase the gross tongue weight. Our current trailer came with the spare tire mounted under the A frame so I removed the crank assembly entirely and again moved the wheel to the front storage compartment. It takes up a minimal amount of space, remains completely dry and rust free, and I store spare hoses & power cables in the empty well of the wheel.
