If there is a good opening for conversation, I'll usually try to make a little small talk. A dog, a type of RV, the weather, things like that. It makes for a nice stay when you can say hi to the neighbor. Usually it leads to trading local knowledge, places to eat, things to see, trails to hike, etc. In Arizona I noticed that the Californians tend to treat the CG as an urban "don't make eye contact" situation. I asked an RV.net member who is a former SoCal resident about that. He said they are just too stressed out, crowded, and rushed to know how to relax and be sociable with strangers.
Anglophone Canadians tell me the Quebecois tend to not engage in conversations with outsiders. I just play dumb and talk to them anyway. And if I see anyone who appears to obviously be from outside North America, usually in a rental Class C, I definitely try to chat them up.
Anyone offended by the above generalizations, lighten up, and let's have a beer.
