Nev-R-Adjust Electric Brakes?

It is time for brakes on my trailer and I was looking at buying Nev-R-Adjust brakes by Dexter versus the manual adjust type. I have no experience with this type of brake and would like to hear some feedback from those who have used them.

Thanks,

Griz

The factory tolerance is .015" for run out. You can barely adjust brakes manually with these poor quality drums, so don't expect the self-adjusting to work correctly. You might get lucky and have good parts.

Since you are to check brake wear and service the wheel bearings regularly, what is the big deal about doing a simple brake adjustment anyway?

Dexter added a cable that is attached to brake shoe assembly and a actuator that engages the star wheel.

When brake shoe moves cable is pulled and star wheel gets turned.
That keeps brakes adjusted as shoe material wears down.

With cars the cable only would pull and tighten the brake when you stopped while going in reverse. My dad used to back up in the yard quickly and hit the brakes a few times a couple of times a year to keep them adjusted tight.
  • Can't find receipt to be exact so I'm guessing 10 years.

After getting tired of manually adjusting brakes on my 2003 Cardinal I installed the self-adjusting brakes.
I purchased the whole backing plate assembly with new shoes and magnets. The brakes worked great for years.

My 2013 Cedar Creek came with them.
