- billyray50ExplorerI emailed Alcoa and never got a response with codes on rims and researched the 17 x 8 forged aluminum wheels that were in original upgrade package on the lot. Some folks on cummins and dodge forums thought they were rated at least 3400 lbs. Alcoa who supplied some Dodge trucks like the power wagons were rated at 3750lbs. I could not confirm this so i upgraded to 19.5 visions rated at 4500 lbs.
- Golden_HVACExplorerHi,
What where the 17" rims and tires rated at?
The 19.5" rims and tires seem like a good pick.
The 70 is the aspect ratio. So take the 245 mm wide X 0.70 and you get the height between the top of the tire and top of the rim (at least that is what I am told). So 75% of 285 mm wide is going to be a taller tire.
Of course 40 extra mm width will provide much wider tire. To improve handling, and soften the bumps, it helps to run less than the maximum rated air pressure in the tires.

Nice to see you have your 19.5's on, looking real good...
Put my old Ricksons to shame, mine were starting to show some rust, just got thru painting them with some rust paint. You won't have that problem.
How is your thread design for road noise..our Michelin's are noisy.
It is nice to load heavy and not worry about the tire/wheel capacity anymore.
I thought I saw part of a rear sway bar hanging down in one of your pics, I just installed a Helwig Big Wig on our similar Dodge SRW and I cannot believe how much better the truck handles with our camper on.
Good luck with your set up, I know you put a lot of thought into it.
Thanks Woodhog.. - billyray50ExplorerThanks for all the help too Bedlam. Appreciate it.

Already completed a 2300 mile trip with previous set up with Nitto 285 Durras and 17 " forged aluminum wheels and this size camper with no problems at all. Sometimes forgot it was on there with my truck. Only problem was I could not find out the wheel rating on the 17" wheels. Hence the 19.5 upgrade. Hauled a heavy 11' shadow cruiser for 2 years with only 17" wheels and Nitto terra 285/70/17 tires. NO SWEAT!! LOL and not much difference with you hauling a Lance 1071!!!!! - billyray50Explorer

Why on a 2500, you can't carry that big a camper anyway, I could use one of the Nittos as a spare
It is really a 1 ton. Only difference between a 2500 and 3500 3rd generation Dodge is a sway bar and top overload. Installed extra leaf spring in each rear pack, 1 ton Helwig sway bar, Ride rite 5000 air bags and Bilstein shocks. - BedlamModeratorI see some resemblance to mine:
- billyray50ExplorerThey sing a little bit but nothing to complain about really. The added support, improved handling and peace of mind with my 1998 Lance 990 legend which is 11' 3" model and wet weight of 3900 pounds let alone not having DW and granddaughter and more stuff was the deciding factor. Will post pics of Truck and TC tomorrow.
- jimh406Explorer IIICongrats! I liked the Visions I had on my srw.
