Also maintaining your vehicle is YOUR responsibility NOT the manufacturer! As you pointed out "I've never had paint problems with any of my VW TDI's, ever, probably because they stay washed, waxed, and garaged. We don't have acid rain where I live either." Same here, my 2004 Ram is proof that a Ram can run for a very long time with normal maintenance. I wash and wax the door jambs and inner door and body jambs on ALL on my vehicles. I suspect that the people that have nightmares are the guys that beat and mod their trucks not the guys that take good care of them.

How much and how often are the required dealer checkups to maintain the warranty? I have a friend that has this but I cannot remember if he said if there was a fee for the checkup.
