Hello all, I just picked up my first travel trailer a 1977 Prowler 17". I'm not completely new to trailers as my parents had a few as I was growing up. so I know some of the basics. I picked this up a few weeks ago and have been working on a few things to get it usable. I noticed that I don't have a city water connection on the side of the trailer, just the fill for the water tank. Is this a common thing for a trailer of this age or did I just get "lucky"? I've done a little research and it sounds like all I would need to install one would be to tap into the line after the pump and put a check valve then a "T" and then run a line to a "city water connector" (with another check valve) in the side of the trailer. Is there anything I'm missing?

My first was a used 79 Skylark. 29ft.TT. It had a steel tank under the bed but never used it. Owner before me disconnected the w/p and just made a connection to the intake line and worked for us. Always stayed in a campground with water hookup. After two yrs. with that trailer we purchased our current one. Sounds like you are on the right track.

1976 Prowler that my parents owned had the city water connection underneath the trailer on the street side. It was a 1/2" line coming straight through the bottom of the trailer wit a tee on the bottom of it, had a plug on the bottom of the tee to act as a low point drain and the hose connection on the side of the tee.

Yes, check underneath on drivers side. A great location IMHO Be sure brakes & bearings are in working order as well as tires. Congrats

I agree to look more. All the trailers I've seen from that era (and motorhomes) had a connection. I think it's more common for new RVs to not have a gravity fill than it is for an older RV to not have a city connection.

Thanks everyone for the quick replys. I'll definitely be checking again before I buy any parts. And thank you for the other suggestions I'll be getting to the bearings/brakes next. I just finished up resealing in the roof it looked pretty rough when I got it.

So here is the trailer. It's a bit beat up but the price wasn't bad. I got a chance to crawl under it really quick and below the hot water heater there was a valve but it's a male. I'll have to crawl in the cabinets tomorrow and see where it goes.

Ok that makes sense so that's not a water tank it's an alcohol tank, perfect!

They didnt drink water back in 1977 , it was beer or hard liquor . Thats why no connection.

IF you don't have one.......

Just buy the city water connection assembly (comes with internal check valve)
Tie into cold water line (pump discharge)
Sharkbite/Gatorbite/Sea Tech push to connect 'T' .....1/2"
Even work on Polybutylene Pipe (Grey Plumbing Pipe used in 70's-80's)

Oh and we are thinking about doing the same thing mhsmith. We wanted something inexpensive to make sure we actually use it enough to justify something newer/more expensive
