So is the only issue with the comfort-step the length of the extension? In other words, can you still tow with the comfort step?
We are mulling an upgrade to a DRW and an 86sbs, and my wife loves the comfort-step for her back (bad disc), but we will need to tow a flat bed car-trailer behind it.
Does anyone tow with the comfort-step? I figure it wouldn't be any less stress on the rear than say an 11' camper with extension.
The Adventurer 86FB I have can be used with a short bed or long bed truck. Since I have a short bed truck there is already a good distance to go for the hitch. Not saying it can't be done with a short bed truck too. But since I only tow a very light tongue weighted trailer occasionaly and plan on flat towing with virtually no tongue weight, it isn't a huge problem for me. If I had a trailer with significant tongue weight, I would step up to a Class V hitch, Torklift SuperTruss style.
I don't see how the comfort step is more beneficial for someone with a bad back? I have 5 steps with my scissors vs 3 steps with a comfort step. That often means one or two of those steps is going to be large distance. Depending on your truck height, you can't add or subtract steps with most built-in TC steps. People just either have a long bottom step or bring along a separate platform of some sort. With the scissors it adapts to different terrains and will be a consistent step height from step-to-step. Torklift GlowSteps can be ordered 6 or 8" wide and you can get a handrail.
There are two benefits I see to the Comfort steps. 1) convenience of a simple flip down. 2) easier access to the basement storage.
