The show in Rosemont is definitely worth going to. I went three years in a row, comparing features and floor layouts. The show has almost everything from large motorhomes, to super small trailers. Also some seminars and vendors offering lots of info, etc.
Take your info on your truck with you and match them to the trailers shown. There are many manufactures and brochures you can take home and compare at your leisure.
The dealers have some "show prices" that can be pretty good. Once you find a model, then you can start shopping. You do not have to buy from a local dealer...but that's a whole new topic when you get there.
I was from the Waukegan area and went to the CW store in Wauconda several times. One of the salesmen said that I could pull a 6,000 lb TT with a Toyota RAV4. I then came to this forum and was quickly educated that the RAV 4 wouldn't do the trick.
One thing I learned here also was NOT to buy too small. A few members realized this after a couple of trips and ended up getting a larger trailer AFTER the sticker shock and the $$$ lost on being used and first year depreciation.
Good luck looking. The members here offer some VERY good advice and the price is right -- free! I learned a great deal from the many years experience of the members.
