new baby on the way need some help.

Four months for our son, but we had full hook ups to wash all his supplies. It will depend on whether mom breast feeds or not. If the baby is bottle fed lots of dishwashing.

I found the pack and play to be too big for the pup. Put the baby on the dinette and buy a bedrail that fits under the mattress.

Lots of good advice from the board.

We camped in our tent or our PUP with all our grandkids before their first birth days. This would include a 1 or 2 day canoe and camp with over nights In the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. Car seats work fine in canoes. My daughter and son-in-law are avid canoeist.

Now some 20 years later those yougin’s carry the loads over the portages and us old folks carry the fishing poles.

Camping with kids takes a bit of time and planning but if mom and dad think it is good, so will the youngsters, especially if you remember that they are kids and they like to play or swim on the beaches etc. And yes before long they will want to pitch a tent under the camper pull out beds.

Ours grew up camping in a tent. #1's first trip was at ~6 months. #2 was camping at 6 weeks.

I'll second that! I once bragged on the baby for sleeping through the night. My husband laughed and said, "She doesn't...but you do!" Seems she was helping herself to snacks without waking me, LOL.

We bought our PUP specifically to go camping with the kids. DD was 3 years old, son was 6. Would have jumped in sooner but weren't in a position to do so, financially speaking.

We tried camping in the tent but with the two kids, dog, and DW, it got a bit tight. Spend a rainy weekend with that crew in a 4-person tent and you may never want to go camping again! The PUP gives us plenty of room, plus having the furnace and indoor stove is really nice when it's cold & wet outside.

FWIW our DD was 6 months old when she took her 1st camping trip in a E-150 conversion Van. Did that for a couple of years the when we adopted our DS, we added a Jayco Popup.

We took our first kid camping in Wisconsin in February when he was about 5 months old. It was in a tent with no heat source other than sleeping between Mom and Dad. We would have gone sooner but you just can't drive a tent stake into frozen ground too easily.

We still love telling the story about how our dear daughter, when age 2, reached down as we're packing up the PUP after weekend of camping and picked up an earthworm and popped it into her mouth. She ate half of it before I saw anything. Me, being a father of two now, was about to yell "Stop" when I realized "two birds, one stone"...one less meal to feed and boosting the immune system. Mom, on the other hand, had no problem rapidly encouraging her to spit it out! Ahh, the joys of parenthood. This kind of stuff will happen whether you're camping or not. But make it while you're camping - it's more fun that way.

Go for it as soon as Mom and baby are ready to go. Each kid is different as to when they are sleeping through the night. I would say that's probably the biggest determining factor in my mind. You probably will be very tired for a while with one or both of you getting up for multiple nighttime feedings. Camping is not exactly a most restful time for me, so couple that with additional lack of sleep from baby and you could be really exhausted and not enjoy the time. Or your wife may be the one dealing with exhaustion. Just be aware of each other's situation and make accommodations.

Our kids were not finicky about what we camped in until they were ready to leave home. They are more picky now.

Our daughter was born March 20th and we took her tent camping Memorial Day weekend. To be honest it was just a weekend thing 20 miles from home. Later that summer August we went on a 1,000 mile 6 state trip.

Worse comes to worse you always have the car / truck to go in.

My daughter grew up loving camping as much as we do and had her little twin boys out camping when they were under a year old.
