nano this year I picked up a 2002 Dodge 1500 Plus with 110K miles for the son to drive to college. The control arm bushings were showing some wear as was the tie rod ends plus the rubber boots were cracked or worse.
We went back with heavy duty loaded control arms, linkage stabilizers, etc to better than new plus they are greaseable now. We also when with shocks that were about 3x stronger than OEM so it is better than new and feels new.
I think when the OEM shocks go the wear rate really increases. It was a daily driver on local two lane roads with pot holes.
Actually I got the parts from RockAuto.com and the upgraded parts did not cost that much plus they are greaseable. The son picked out the truck and I wanted to make sure there were no safety issues with the front end when he starts to college and over the next few years.
I had never owned a Dodge before and did not know what to expect. I think the newly rebuilt front end will wear out the rest of the chassis.
The truck is rust free and has been in KY all of its life never more than 20 miles from where it was sold new. It is solid with leather seats so for the $5700 purchase price we were able to spend some money and still come out OK.
Yes it seems these parts should last longer but like stetwood, others stated just go back with greaseable ones. I would go premium grade vs. OEM grade.
