New Bunk House Trailer

So we have a 2012 Heartland Northtrail 28brs trailer right now and it is ok for us it just doesnt provide us with enough room in the living area so we started to look for something with the bigger slide. We have found three that am looking at, just trying to see which would be a better trailer. They are all about the same price so that is not much of a consideration.

We have 2 daughters 7 and 9, 2 labs (though only a matter of time will only have one) So need the space and we have seen all 3 in person, just cant decide...

2014 Keystone Outback 301QB
2013 Forest River 29BHS
2014 Jayco Jay Flight 29QBH

Basically looking for any thoughts and any information about build quality...

Our Tow Vehicle is: 2012 Dodge Ram Mega Cab 2500 Diesel

Thanks

    BUMP....Please any input

I don't understand what you are looking for. All 3 of the trailers are built by HUGE manufacturers that have been in business for decades.

Pick which ever one you like the best.

I can guarantee you that someone, somewhere has had minor and major issues with each one of those trailers.

But would you base your decision on one person coming on here saying they had an issue?......I wouldn't.

You have to pay for it. Pick the one you like the best.

Note: Dont fret about the Jayco 2 year warranty...all manufacturers can add an extra year for under 200 bucks.
  • We purchased an Outback 298RE a month ago. Funny because we seriously considered the 301 and that is the one we actually went to see at the dealer. After describing what we were looking for, the dealer led us to the 298RE, which was REALLY what we were looking for. We don't have kids at home any more, but we've had bunkhouse style campers always. I wanted the bunks for storage, storage, storage!

Well ... we ended up getting the 298RE and it really was the best for us. But we did get to look at the 301 on the lot and after seeing the 298, there was no comparison.

Looking at the floor plans between the two, looks like the bunks and master bed are opposite each other, but the Forest River does not have a slide in the Master bed room.

One thing to consider, the Master Bed on the front of the trailer, if you spend much time in bed, the curved (front) of the camper, which is the headboard of the bed, is very uncomfortable leaning back on. The Outback master bed (Head) is on a flat surface.

I strongly suggest you physically go see both campers and spend some time with them. Try sitting and laying on the bed, actually sit on the toilet (don't use it)... you'll discover that most men don't have enough leg room (men, you know what I mean). And try laying on the bunks yourself. If you are not comfortable, the kids will not be comfortable either.

I personally like the Outback floor plan better. You've got more space with the extra slide for the bedroom.

But to answer your original question, actually, both are good campers, and you'll have no problems (at best, minimal issues) that will be discovered within the first week you have it.

I do know if you go with the Outback you'll be getting a pretty good trailer. But Forest River ain't shabby either!
