New Camper Hauler

Setting up an old truck/camper unit is the only thing that would make me sell my current rig, I think they so much cooler than laying down $60-100k on new stuff.

I love any make from the 70's down, but something in the 60's would be my pick.

that truck is in really nice condition, and is going to look sweet.

I will promise you won't be able to fuel up with out someone walking over to take a look at it.

Cab and hood base coat applied along with clear coat. Now time to put it all back together. Will paint the bed later this week. Love the red but it sure is expensive.

Yes does have 10,000 GVW the guy I bought it from also had 5 or 6 leaves added to the overload springs.

With that old of a camper, not knowing what the uses were, are you doing anything with the springs and shocks?

nice project JSSEC - thanks for posting

Few Updates, removed bed, stripped frame and media blasted all, rebuilt brakes with new shoes, drums, brake hardware, hoses, seals, Monroe Gas Magnum Shocks, rebuilt stabilizer with new bushings checked bearings etc all good. Remove plastic gas tank welded crack installed new fill and vent hose, new sending unit with fuel pick up. Primed all will apply rubberized coat later. Installed new Coker 16" x 10" steel wheels with Firestone Destination, LT305 70R 16, Load Range "E", Max Load Single @65 psi 3526 Lbs tires on rear. Used existing factory Ford 16" rims on front with Firestone Transforce HT, LT235 85R 16, Load Range "E" @55 psi 3042 Lbs. The $100 40# media blaster from Harbor Freight has been worth its weight in gold.

Replaced Power steering pump, alternator, battery and added a second aux. battery with left side tray I found at junk yard. Batteries are Motorcraft BXT-27F 675 CCA. Wired second battery in with 100% duty solenoid wired to switched on. Replaced master cylinder and checked booster. Rebuilt front brakes new pads, hardware, rotors, calipers and hoses. New Monroe Gas Magnum Shocks. Rebuilt stabilizer bar with new bushings. Checked and greased bearings with new seals.

Removed all chrome and anything bolted to outside and interior. Sanded and primed as needed. Installed new steering wheel shift collar. Removed rear window, side windows and all door hardware.
Installed new turn signal switch along with new neutral switch.
Fabricated a third battery tray from some aluminum I had and bolted to left outside of frame behind the cab. Purchased new period correct cab lights for the top drilled all holes for them. Being a Ford Camper Special it already had the necessary wiring back to the frame behind cab wired in a 7 way to match my camper.

Cab is now ready for new paint inside and out should happen next Saturday if not before. Some photos follow.

New Rear Tires On.

Welded plastic fuel tank back in.

Third battery box holder to be added.
7 Way plug.

And the High $$$$ red base coat goes on.

Waiting On Paint.

Can't wait to get it done and camper on it.

that's a hunk of steel is what it is.

It's a good investment.

There is a guy in my neighborhood that drops Cummins in those.

Nice find!!! 70's Ford trucks were the best looking!!! I drove a 79 351M for 7 years. Loved that truck!!!
