New Cummins Question

I see there is alot of diesel experts here so I have a couple questions. Just traded in my 2017 6.4 hemi for a 2017 cummins. I had a 2003 cummins before the hemi so this new cummins and guages are a little different. Is there anything special I should know about the turbo boost or exhaust brake guages? Like dont run them high for long periods of time when towing? My 03 never had that stuff so I just drove it and didnt worry.

Thanks

  • The new RAM/Cummins do not have an EGT gauge, and as other have stated just drive and work it, as it can not hurt itself. You did not state what term level you purchased. If it has the 8.4" computer screen and 7" EVIC you can taylor a lot of personal choice with gauges and indicators for mileage, distance, distance to empty etc. Chris
  • The engine is controlled by the ECM and it will defuel if it gets into unsafe parameters. It would be pretty hard to cause any catastrophic damage to the engine in stock form since the boost and fuel mapping are really conservative. Use the exhaust brake on a regular basis(at least a few times a week) to keep soot of the VG vanes.
  • SAME.......just drive it and don't worry

The EMC will 'protect' engine from overfueling just like it did with your 03 when you had no clue :B

Gauges are nice to see 'what/how' engine is performing
They allow you to tailor your driving habits because you can see how fast/slow your EGTs move in relation to boost psi

And now that you have them you WILL notice how you drive :B
