NEW Dodge 2013 Ram 3500 4x4 -> ride is horrible! What to do?

WE just bought a beautiful new 2013 Dodge Ram 3500 SLT Crew Cab and the ride is ROUGH to say the least.

When we took the test drive we did not go far and on a freeway that must have been just repaved (or whatever they call it) and not very far distance wise.

We previously had a 2 wheel drive 3500 mega-cab that rode beautifully (trade-in)...but felt for towing and safety we needed a 4x4.

I had back surgery about 3.5 years ago and this new Dodge (2013-4x4) is just murder on my back. We drove 3 hours on a freeway and every little bump is magnified 100 times!! I am to wait for this 2013 to be broken in to ride well?

CALLING all RV.net bloggers......HELP!
1. Can we put "air suspension" in to help the ride without compromising the tow capabilities?
2. Are there other ways to resolve this problem?
3. No cooling off period so we OWN this truck.

We tow a 25 foot Coleman trailer and of course I would not want to change anything on the truck that would render the truck to become an "unworthy tow vehicle".

And one day we hope to upgrade our little trailer to a 5th wheel, so whatever we do we need for it to stay "tow worthy" for a big rig.

Any and all suggestions would be welcomed!

    I am the author of this post/blog/thread...and I must say after 2 years the ride has mellowed out even with tires filled to specs.

    Yes...I know it's not a Cadi and will never be, but I'm so happy that it does ride better now that it is a little broken in.

    I have a 2013 Ram 3500 DRW 4x4 with the Aisin tranny and 4:10 gears. I am glad to read that someone else saw a tire monitoring system on their dash and then it was gone. Same thing happened to me. The only explanation I got was the dually doesn't have it. My truck does ride rough but it's understandable. But my 2007 Ram Dually Mega Cab rode better. My complaint with this truck is that between 38-42 there is like a shake. More in the seat than in the wheel. Nobody can figure out why. Has a little shake also when accelerating slowly and is much worse when I am towing my 42' toy hauler. Any thoughts?

    Notice you have the Laramie Ram Dually........WOW! That's gotta be a pretty nice looking truck!

    I wanted a dually and hubby thought it would be too wide and big as it's his everyday ride. I love the look and road attitude it exudes. Hope we don't regret not getting one.

    Sounds like a reasonable conclusion, but for us...definitely not true:


    I had back successful back surgery 6 years ago. No more sciatic pain - but everyday "localized" back pain which will never go away.

    When we took owernship of the Dodge 3500 and inflated the tires to spec after the dealer had them pretty flat (we mentioned it to him, but he ignore our statement) my back was feeling the pain on the roads consistently even after we deflated the tires again.

    Once a person has the surgery I had (micro-discectomy) whatever the result was is what it is and will be (or get worse with age). My back will not improve since I had some of the disc material remove. It does not regenerate nor grow back. My point is that my back is the "unchangeable vibration meter" for the ride in the truck and for that and any car, train........etc.

    Now a year later my "back pain meter" tells me that the heavy vibration has been reduced. AND I don't go "flying in the air" on some patches of bad freeway that's unforgettable and yet memorable.

    So the statement: "I'm getting used to it" could be a reasonable statement...but for me it's not a true statement as my back feels the same localized bone on bone pain every morning consistently when I wake up. I pretty much have not gotten used to that and it's not "background noise" at all...... (but praising God that the surgery took away my 24/7 sciatic nerve pain).

    The truck loaded and unloaded is riding really nicely....yes....a year later. The 23 freeway, near my home and on the way to the RV storage lot, is a beast and it does not feel as jarring as when we took ownership of the truck......so sorry....I will come to the same conclusion that the truck has "mellowed" out....a happy statement for me.

    BTW - my husband has what I call the three "S"....Sciriolis, spondylolisthesis & stenosis...his back meter agrees with me on the truck being more broken in. : )

WE just bought a beautiful new 2013 Dodge Ram 3500 SLT Crew Cab and the ride is ROUGH to say the least.

When we took the test drive we did not go far and on a freeway that must have been just repaved (or whatever they call it) and not very far distance wise.

We previously had a 2 wheel drive 3500 mega-cab that rode beautifully (trade-in)...but felt for towing and safety we needed a 4x4.

I had back surgery about 3.5 years ago and this new Dodge (2013-4x4) is just murder on my back. We drove 3 hours on a freeway and every little bump is magnified 100 times!! I am to wait for this 2013 to be broken in to ride well?

CALLING all RV.net bloggers......HELP!
1. Can we put \"air suspension\" in to help the ride without compromising the tow capabilities?
2. Are there other ways to resolve this problem?
3. No cooling off period so we OWN this truck.

We tow a 25 foot Coleman trailer and of course I would not want to change anything on the truck that would render the truck to become an \"unworthy tow vehicle\".

And one day we hope to upgrade our little trailer to a 5th wheel, so whatever we do we need for it to stay \"tow worthy\" for a big rig.

Any and all suggestions would be welcomed!

I had back successful back surgery 6 years ago. No more sciatic pain - but everyday \"localized\" back pain which will never go away.

When we took owernship of the Dodge 3500 and inflated the tires to spec after the dealer had them pretty flat (we mentioned it to him, but he ignore our statement) my back was feeling the pain on the roads consistently even after we deflated the tires again.

Once a person has the surgery I had (micro-discectomy) whatever the result was is what it is and will be (or get worse with age). My back will not improve since I had some of the disc material remove. It does not regenerate nor grow back. My point is that my back is the \"unchangeable vibration meter\" for the ride in the truck and for that and any car, train........etc.

Now a year later my \"back pain meter\" tells me that the heavy vibration has been reduced. AND I don't go \"flying in the air\" on some patches of bad freeway that's unforgettable and yet memorable.

So the statement: \"I'm getting used to it\" could be a reasonable statement...but for me it's not a true statement as my back feels the same localized bone on bone pain every morning consistently when I wake up. I pretty much have not gotten used to that and it's not \"background noise\" at all...... (but praising God that the surgery took away my 24/7 sciatic nerve pain).

The truck loaded and unloaded is riding really nicely....yes....a year later. The 23 freeway, near my home and on the way to the RV storage lot, is a beast and it does not feel as jarring as when we took ownership of the truck......so sorry....I will come to the same conclusion that the truck has \"mellowed\" out....a happy statement for me.
